As I get close to making my website for my walk public, I am reminded how far I have come in the last two months since I committed to walking to the trail. When I started in late September I had an idea but it needed to grow. I started out just thinking of how I could accomplish my dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail. It quickly turned into how can I help others by doing this. With the help of Andrea, who gave me the idea of helping CITY House, I can now proudly make my walk knowing that this is going to benefit someone.
Phase one, I guess you would call it, is now complete. I have developed this idea and I have put it in the form of a website. I have met with CITY House and they are excited for this. Now, I must move to the next phase of my journey. It is now time to take action. During this phase I will be putting together and coordinating my Trail journey. Getting equipment, coordinating departure, putting the pieces of the puzzle together that won’t follow me on the trail together (ex my dog, my stuff in my apartment, my finances). This will be a hard phase as I have no idea where to start. However, if I have learned anything from phase one is that Faith will carry me through no matter what comes my way. God will get me through anything as long as I stay focused and Spiritually guided.
With the unveiling of the website in the next few days I think it’s important that people really understand the purpose of this all. My ultimate goal is to get people involved in helping others. In these economic rough times it’s so very easy to think of just yourself and your own needs. It’s important to know that even if you can’t give back financially that you can give back with your heart. Get involved and help others; volunteer. People need us more than ever now and hopefully this website will get people working towards this goal.
For most of us, being asked to give back financially is really hard. It’s not a matter of donating out of our “Rainy Day” jar we have sitting on the window sill. No, money is hard to come by for everyone. That’s why I want to help people get involved. With more than just encouragement I will help people get involved with whatever they want to do. Sometimes, that’s all someone is lacking; a way to get involved. Their desire is there but they lack in the know-how to do it. I will find a way. Whether you want to help me, CITY House, or your local Boys and Girls Club, I will help. Most places in the world need volunteers like us.

so one man sharpens another
